Grappling refers to many techniques that are employed in a wide variety of disciplines that fall under the umbrella of ‘the martial arts.’ Grappling, by definition, does not involve striking or the use of weapons. The goal of grappling is to gain a physical advantage, improve your relative position, escape your opponent, or force your opponent to submit. This class is strength is strength & conditioning class focusing on wrestling & jiu jitsu.
In martial arts and combat sports, striking refers to hand-to-hand combat between opponents in a standing position. In contrast, you have grappling that largely dictate ground fighting, though in MMA striking can be part of a fighter’s ground game.
Strikes can come from fists, knees, elbows, and kicks in order to hurt your opponent or set up the opportunity to enter into grappling. Different striking arts utilize these weapons in different ways. At Modern Martial Arts & Fitness, our coaches come from a variety of backgrounds so that we can bring you the most useful and the most fun techniques to learn. As a member of Modern Martial Arts & Fitness, not only will you learn the offensive attacks of the striking arts, but you’ll also be able to defend yourself from someone trying to attack you. Understanding strikes in the context of both offense and defense is fundamental to training in striking sports—including MMA—as well as self-defense.
Muay Thai Kickboxing
Muay Thai kickboxing is the most effective striking martial art in the world. Known as the art of the eight limbs---hands, feet, knees & elbows--- has widely become the most practiced kickboxing art in the world.
Our traditional yoga class develop strength and flexibility by holding yoga poses for several breaths. The entire body will be challenged and balanced using yoga poses, breathing exercises, guided relaxations, and meditation practice. You will develop more awareness and control of your body, breath, and mind.
This is a high energy strength & conditioning power hour using weights, TRX, kettle bells, battle ropes, med balls & more.
FIIT stands for FUN, Intensity, Interval, Training. This boot camp is meant to push you in the sweat & fun department. We focus on compound movements, mobility portions & strength components-come experience a 60 minute high energy class to kick off your morning!
